Citizens of all countries, except those of the Republic of Armenia, The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Syrian Arab Republic, are exempt from the requirement of obtaining a visa before arriving in the TRNC.  The validity period of the visa depends on the purpose of the visit.

Under the new Regulation on Residence Permit and Visas (105/2019), the immigration authorities at the ports and crossing points of Northern Cyprus have the discretion to determine the number of days of the visas that are granted to foreigners entering the TRNC (and the visas are not automatically for 90 days as the case was before).

If you wish to reside in the TRNC, you must apply for a temporary residence permit.  There are different types of residence permits, such as those granted because

the applicant owns immovable property in the TRNC, or due to family residence, student residence and so on.  There are a number of categories under which a foreigner can be eligible to apply for a residence permit.

A residence permit only entitles a foreigner to live in the TRNC.  It does not entitle one to work or set up a business.  To do these, one must obtain either a work permit or a business permit.
